The 80th Economic Policy Panel meeting took place on the 23rd and 24th June 2025, hosted by the CESifo Summer Institute and supported by the Reducing Conflict and Improving Performance in the Economy (ReCIPE) programme. The papers presented will be part of two Special Issues on ‘Economic Policies for Peace’.
The 80th Economic Policy Panel Meeting in Venice brought together leading researchers to explore the intersections of conflict, peacebuilding, and economic development.
Discussions ranged from classifying conflict types and the policies that foster peace, to examining the role of institutions, gender inequality, and information flows in shaping conflict dynamics. Several contributions addressed the impact of climate change, natural resources, and investment patterns on conflict, while others explored geoeconomics, ethnic divisions, and paths from international peacemaking to individual peacebuilding.
The programme also included work on the influence of media and public opinion, the relationship between private and public investment and peace, and strategies for rebuilding societies affected by violence. Together, these studies offered new evidence and perspectives to better understand the drivers of conflict and to inform effective policy responses
