Submission Guidelines

Commissioned Papers Only

All papers published in Economic Policy: Papers on European and Global Issues are commissioned by the Managing Editor. The journal does not accept unsolicited submissions. Invitations are extended to authors whose expertise and research are directly relevant to the journal’s thematic priorities.

Review Process

Commissioned papers undergo a distinctive review process designed to balance academic rigour with policy relevance. Each paper is evaluated by the Editorial Board and external referees. Working drafts are then presented at the journal’s biannual conferences, held in summer and winter.

Publication Ethics

The journal follows Oxford University Press’s policies on publication and research ethics, including originality, authorship, and data integrity. All commissioned submissions are screened to ensure compliance with these standards.

Conference Presentation and Discussants

At these conferences, each paper is discussed by two invited discussants, who provide detailed comments from both academic and policy perspectives. Authors are expected to revise their work in light of referee reports and conference discussions. The Managing Editor oversees revisions to ensure clarity, accessibility, and impact.

Publication Timeline

The final versions of the papers, together with the discussants’ comments, are published in the journal within six months of their conference presentation.

Style and Accessibility

Authors will be provided with a journal template and style guidance at the time of commissioning. All figures should include alternative text (alt text) to ensure accessibility for readers using screen readers. Authors are also required to ensure that references are accurate and that permissions are secured for any third-party material.

Data Availability

Authors are expected to make the data, code, and materials underlying their findings available whenever possible to facilitate replication and verification.
If restrictions apply due to confidentiality or proprietary data, authors should clearly explain the nature of the limitation and indicate how the data may be accessed under those conditions.

Publishing Agreement and Charges

Upon acceptance, authors will complete an online licence to publish form with Oxford University Press. Authors may publish under a standard licence or, where applicable, under an open access licence supported by their institution or research funder.

Open Access

Economic Policy: Papers on European and Global Issues supports open-access publication through Oxford University Press’s Read & Publish agreements. Authors affiliated with participating institutions may publish open access without paying individual article processing charges.
