Theme: “Global interdependence, global imbalances, and economic security”

The third Economic Policy: Papers on European and Global Issues conference will bring together academics and policymakers at the OECD in Paris to examine how global interdependence, global imbalances, and economic security have become a single set of questions rather than three separate ones.

The same trade and financial linkages that deliver the gains from integration also determine who is exposed to whom, and Europe sits at the center of that calculation. The programme opens with a policy panel spanning macroeconomics, global linkages and security, then turns to four papers: the shifting composition of the international reserve system and what it means for the euro, the macroeconomic footprint of industrial policy on global imbalances, Europe’s position in the structure of global foreign exchange markets beyond dollar dominance and carry, and the concentration of critical inputs that creates chokepoints and divides transatlantic policy responses. The day will close with a conference dinner and a keynote by Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas.
